Manufacturing photography is very similar to industrial product photography, as both can capture the creation of a product. However, manufacturing photography usually has a much deeper focus on the process, machinery, and workforce involved in creating the product.
3. Architectural Photography
Another type of industrial photography is architectural photography, which is all about capturing industrial buildings, factories, warehouses, and other structures. It’s usually used to showcase the design, scale, and function of these properties.
4. Construction Photography
Construction photography falls closely to architectural photography. The only main difference is the stage of the process. Construction photography is usually pre-build, whereas architectural is post-build.
5. Aerial and Drone Photography
Usually, this type of photography is used to showcase the scale of operations of an industrial business. By getting a birds-eye view, the company can show investors, partners, and customers the sheer size of their facilities.
6. Corporate Photography
Corporate photography shouldn’t get mixed up with operational photography. While both capture employees in their work environment, corporate photography is formal, such as headshots, workforce photos, etc.
7. Industrial Process Photography
With industrial process photography, you take photos of the entire process. This is usually anywhere from raw material handling all the way to the finished product. The goal is to highlight the techniques and technologies used during production.
8. Operational Photography
When it comes to operational photography, it’s all about capturing the day-to-day operations within an industrial setting. This may include the machinery in action, employees working, and the general production flow.
9. Environmental Portraits
Another industrial photography idea is environmental portraits. These images usually consist of the human element of the industrial industry. In this sector, it’s typically used to capture welders, engineers, etc., while they’re working on a project or in the workflow.
10. Safety and Compliance Photography
Unlike a lot of these types of industrial photography, safety and compliance photography is usually used in-house. It can be captured to then be used in training manuals, posters, etc., That helps the company’s safety and compliance.
11. Inspection and Quality Control Photography
Like safety and compliance photography, inspection and quality control photography is used in-house. It’s used to inspect and verify the quality of the product/service. For high-end products, like custom luxury cars, this type of photography can be good for updating the consumer on the process.
12. Heavy Equipment Photography
As the name implies, heavy equipment photography is images of heavy equipment. It can also include heavy-duty vehicles. Often, this type of photography highlights the size and functionality of the equipment.
13. Energy and Power Generation Photography
Energy and power generation photography is a very specific type of industrial photography. As you can imagine, it’s a type of photography for the energy and power industry. It can be used to capture power plants, wind farms, etc.
14. Logistics and Supply Chain Photography
Again, like the other type of industrial photography we mentioned above, logistics and supply chain photography directly target the movement of goods, material handling, and, in general, the entire logistics process (transportation, warehousing, and distribution).
15. Industrial Automation Photography
For industrial automation, this is all about documenting the automated processes in these types of settings. Think automatic processes, robotics, and very advanced machinery. The goal is to highlight the automation tool, showcasing its integration within the workplace.
16. Mining and Extraction Photography
When it comes to mining and extraction photography, the goal is to capture anything to do with the industry. This may include but is not limited to mining, drilling, and extraction of natural resources.
17. Research and Development (R&D) Photography
R&D photography is about capturing the process of innovation. This typically includes product development and experimentation. It can be anything from industrial labs all the way to research facilities, highlighting the processes in the R&D department.

The last type of industrial photography is hazardous material handling photography, which is used to take photos of the handling, storage, and creation of hazardous materials. It can also include transportation of the materials.
